Teaching Framework
Captivate 22 utilises a teaching framework designed to target all aspects of public speaking using three major strategies. These include skills training, exposure and cognitive restructuring. Together, these approaches help individuals improve their communication skills, gradually reduce speaking anxiety, and develop healthier thought patterns around public speaking situations.
Skills training
This covers all presentation techniques ranging from body language to tone. The skills we teach are designed to help you take control of the way an audience may perceive you. These techniques are informed by social psychology research and aimed at helping individuals communicate with greater clarity and influence in both professional and everyday settings.
Cognitive restructuring
Cognitive restructuring is essentially retraining the way we think. By retraining default thought patterns, we can overcome public speaking anxiety. Our fear responses are often driven by exaggerated negative thoughts, but we have the power to challenge these thoughts.
Exposure
Fear cannot continue rising indefinitely, it eventually peaks and begins to plateau. By gradually exposing ourselves to fearful conditions, we begin to lower the intensity of that emotional response over time, allowing situations that once felt overwhelming to become more familiar and less threatening.
